Dishaa celebrates a variety of events with our children, and several special occasions with parents as well. We highlight the spirit of Being Indian through festivals and important days observed throughout the year.

Graduation Day holds great significance for both children and parents, marking a meaningful milestone in their journey. Birthdays are celebrated in true Montessori tradition, honoring the child’s life story and their journey around the sun.

Parents are warmly invited to participate in activities such as cooking, storytelling, and other engaging experiences that strengthen our school community.

Festivals @ Dishaa and Dhiira

Since Montessori developed the pedagogy in Italy in the early 1900’s, the question of festivals and rituals probably didn’t arise as much as it does in today’s connected world. However, the Montessori system is inherently adaptable – Maria Montessori believed that the purpose of education was to help the child adapt to the time and culture into which they were born. If festivals are a big part of our culture – then, absolutely, the child must be introduced to them!

While Montessori recommended reserving discussions on morality or religion for the second plane child (ages 6-12), festivals can easily be shared with younger children too. There is the practical work of cleaning the house in preparation for rituals. There is the sensory joy of preparing food unique to each festival. Throw in specific vocabulary related to each festival for an engaging lesson in language. And above all, there is the cultural learning that while each festival is unique, the joy emanating from celebrating them unites us all, whatever our region, caste or religion.

Parent participation at Dishaa & Dhiira refer
to a family's involvement in their child's learning, encompassing both home-based activities like reading and educational play, and school-based engagement like attending events and communicating with teachers. This collaboration between parents and educators is a key factor in a child's success, leading to positive cognitive, social, and emotional development, improved academic performance, and better preschool readiness.

During the recent festive season, a few parents volunteered for functions and helped us with activities to become an integral part of the learning community. They shared their insights on festivals celebrated acrossvtheir hometowns and engaged children in activities.

MUSIC IN LOWER ELEMENTARY PROGRAM-

Language and Literacy: Music is seen as another form of literacy, with songs enhancing vocabulary, meter, and rhyme, which supports overall language acquisition.

Cultural Connection:Introducing songs from diverse cultures broadens children's understanding of the world and enriches their appreciation for different human traditions.

Emotional Expression:Music provides a powerful channel for children to express their unique emotions and energy.

DHIIRA - Our Elementary Montessori's Open House conducted on 19th Sept, allowed parents to observe students actively engaged in hands-on learning within the prepared Montessori environment, showcasing the child-led, hands-on approach to academics like Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, and Math. The event fostered a sense of community, highlighted the development of independence and concentration, and provided a valuable opportunity for parents to connect with the Montessori philosophy and the school's unique learning atmosphere.

📚✨ First Day Magic at Montessori! ✨🌱 2025-2026

Today was filled with giggles, wide-eyed wonder, and the soft pitter-patter of tiny feet finding their way back into their happy place — our Montessori environment! 💛

Our little ones walked in with sparkling eyes, excited chatter, and arms full of hugs (and maybe a few butterflies in their tummies 🦋). It was heartwarming to see how much they were looking forward to being back — to their friends, their cozy classrooms, and the joyful rhythm of discovery.

This return marks more than just a new academic year. It’s a beautiful leap into independence, curiosity, and growth — the very pillars of the Montessori journey. 🌼

A Farm Visit - what a fun day it was...aquarium, farm animals, big banyan tree, tractor ride, farm tour ,hearty food and a wonderful day with friends. Our children had a blast !

We gave it a soecial place everywhere around our school place. It validated their creative efforts and allowed them to express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas. Seeing their artwork showcased gave children a sense of achievement. It reinforced the idea that their work matterd and inspired them to continue exploring and developing their creative skills.

Children's Day is a commemorative date celebrated annually in honour of children, whose date of observance varies by country. Children's Day, as you all know, in India, is celebrated each year on the birth anniversary of India's first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, which is on November 14 as tribute to him. A day dedicated to the adorable, bubbly, and always excited little humans is all about making their childhood happy and beautiful. In India, Children’s Day is extra special @dishaanewsletter1 .

The teachers planned various events for them, from performances, games like muddy puddle jumping, hands, and feet hopscotch. Parachute hide n seek, etc, and even special treats, making the day memorable for all the students. Enjoy a few pictures.

In a Montessori environment, festivals and holidays form an integral part of our cultural curriculum. For us at Dishaa Montessori, festivals are cultural celebrations and not religious. Children focus on traditions and rituals while celebrating. When we celebrate a festival, it's about the customs, the clothes and the traditional food. As a Montessori school, we believe in celebrating all holidays with equal enthusiasm. All festivals hold equal importance for us. We share stories and even try to create activities that revolve around these festivals and celebrations. We enjoy customs, cuisines, dresses, and traditions and culturally embrace all festivals. We always maintain that Montessori is a way of life and not merely a method of education.

Our tiny tots visited the fire station today . Such an informative trip it was , in order to make them understand the importance of community helpers in our lives. They were briefed by the fire officer on how to contact the fire authorities in case of an emergency by dialling 101.

Children were also educated on the ways that can be used for dousing the fire i.e. covering the area with a blanket, or putting sand over the affected area, etc. A demonstration drill was also conducted to explain the whole process of fire elimination.

Lastly, students were made to visit the vehicles firemen used during the state of emergency. What a fun trip it was !!!

Teacher's Day @ Dishaa Montessori House of Children

In a Montessori classroom, the teacher is always aware of each student's progress and skill level as they work toward mastering important concepts and talents. This is because Montessori teachers don't rely on standardized tests to gauge their students' understanding. Instead, they rely on the power of observation.

Today, as we fondly celebrate this day as the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan - the first Vice-President and the second President of India, special shout out to the backbone of Dishaa - our teachers!

It's Maria Montessori's birthday today. Her legacy lives on.

" The goal of early childhood education should be to activate the child's own natural desire to learn."

@DISHAA MONTESSORI HOUSE OF CHILDREN, we have been reflecting on how we can have conversations / activities etc in school in order to impart the importance of imbibing value based activities from a young age.

For instance 'Gratitude' Is our topic for this month. We will move from the tangible and observable ----- how my family helps me ------ to friends, community, Nature etc. The slow build up will help the Child to go beyond their own experiences with people to the wider circle.

Raksha bandhan, otherwise shortly called Rakhi, was celebrated at Dishaa Montessori House of Children. Children made their own rakhis and enjoyed the ritual of the rakhi, performing aarthi and, most importantly, eating yummy pedas.

Carpentry in Lower Elementary class rooms - 1st-3rd Grade

One of the most recognised benefits of carpentry is its effect on children's fine motor skills. Whether the child hammers a nail, uses a screwdriver or makes a hole in wood with a hand drill, they are developing hand-eye coordination and strengthening the neural connections in the cerebellum. This is the area of the brain that 'calibrates' or fine-tunes movement, specifically, the delicate hand movements involved in carpentry. By 'turning on' the cerebellum through carpentry, children are learning control over their bodies and ensuring that their improving hand-eye coordination will transfer to other activities.

Woodworking lets children express their creativity in a 3-Dimenional (3D) way.

Carpentry intrinsically supports conceptualisation.

Carpentry also gives children a basic understanding of math's and science principles. By measuring and comparing dimensions children can grasp the concepts of length, width and depth/height. By seeing the different force it takes to bang a nail into a block of wood, as compared to a piece of polystyrene, children gain understanding of force and different textures and densities.

Show and tell is the first opportunity young children have to stand up in front of a small group and speak. The opportunity to do a show and tell might come up in kindergarten, or once they start primary school. It is a wonderful introduction to public speaking as children are often given the option of speaking about a topic they know well and are interested in. Speaking about something you love always makes you love it even more!

When you are asked to help your child prepare a show and tell, remember the positive impact it can have on his or her confidence and communication skills!

The role of the storytelling method using hand puppet media in early childhood language development, namely (1) encouraging children to be more skilled at speaking; (2) make children more interested and more active in listening; (3) increasing children’s self-confidence; (4) improve children’s listening skills; (5) developing receptive language skills of children; (6) developing children’s early literacy; (7) enabling children to retell stories that they’ve been heard; (8) add word recognition and vocabulary to children’s language; and (9) developing children’s oral language skills.

Maria Montessori saw each child as a unique individual, who developed at their own rate, and believed in educating the whole child, with movement paramount to the education of the mind. "Movement, or physical activity, is thus an essential factor in intellectual growth, which depends upon the impressions received from outside,” she wrote in Discovery of the Child . "Through movement we come in contact with external reality, and it is through these contacts that we eventually acquire even abstract ideas."

Yoga, like Montessori education, is a process of discovery. A mindful, non-competitive exercise, emphasising movement and breathing and the connection of body and mind, it helps students of any age to understand our own nature and live harmoniously with others. In an age where technology means that children often spend long hours glued to a screen, this is more relevant than ever.

In fact, Yoga and Montessori philosophies align seamlessly in many ways as they both focus on exercising, educating and empowering the whole child, are non-competitive with the emphasis being on the process and not the end result – we encourage children to enjoy the poses without trying to perfect them. Both, aims to build self-esteem, we modify the poses and give children the tools they need to complete them successfully
Both work to balance and calm the child. Both begin simply and gradually increase in difficulty, moving from the concrete to the abstract. Both value movement as vital to the development of the mind.
There are three parts to a yoga pose: going into the pose, being in the pose and coming out of the pose with control. These correlate with carrying a piece of work from the shelf, using the work and thoughtfully placing the work back on the shelf.Just as the Silence Game is sometimes used in a Montessori classroom, meditation is introduced to children in yoga classes to help improve awareness and focus Merging the Montessori curriculum into our yoga classes we can stimulate all areas of a child’s development.

Now is the perfect time to dig into a plants for Montessori lesson. Children will learn all about seeds and plants using hands-on plant activities. We have fun seed crafts for kids, parts of a plant projects, seed germination for kids, a beautiful plants craft so kids can see their roots & learning how plants drink. We spent a week exploring seeds & plants for kindergarten. This is a fun topic for our kids because they are always anxious to plant our garden & starting picking produce! By the time we finished this lesson children had a better understanding about how plants grow, plant anatomy, and a better appreciation of many different flower and vegetable plants are out there!

World Environment Day - @ Dishaa Montessori , we celebrated world environment day be creating awareness amongst our little warriors through 2 very impact full activities- Garbage picking and segregation and plant potting in sustainable coconut shells. Children thoroughly enjoyed the sessions.
